Ostheopathy pain: How to understand it Differently. Why My Tests Always Guide Your Treatment

At Osteopathy NDG Vincent Beaugrand-Champagne, near Côte-Saint-Luc in Montreal, I approach pain differently. When someone suffers from back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel, or sciatica, the painful area often feels like the source of the problem. But in most cases I see in clinic, the painful zone is only the result — not the real cause.

Osteopathic Testing: The Key to Finding the True Origin of Your Pain:

Before treating anything, I always take the time to perform precise, targeted tests. These tests help me understand which tissue, structure, or system is actually involved:

  • A deep muscular contraction?

  • A postural compensation?

  • A joint restriction forcing another to overwork?

  • A visceral tension affecting spinal mobility?

  • A posterior chain restriction pulling on your structures?

This manual diagnostic process determines the exact path we must take to relieve your pain effectively.

Osteopathy pain: Why I Often Spend Only 10–15 Minutes on the Painful Area

Because the painful area is often not the main problem!Very often, pain appears in a zone that is overstretched because the opposite area is:

  • too tight

  • too rigid

  • compensating

  • limited in mobility

So the area that hurts is actually the victim of tension elsewhere in the body.

Thanks to testing, I can find where the real restriction is — and that’s the area I treat first.Once the cause releases, pain decreases or disappears much more efficiently.

Common Pain Conditions I See in Clinic:

Lower Back Pain

Often caused by tensions in:

  • hips

  • deep abdominals

  • viscera (colon, kidneys, etc.)

  • posterior chain muscles

Neck Pain

Frequently linked to:

  • thoracic cage

  • posture

  • shoulders

  • jaw

Carpal Tunnel

Sometimes caused by:

  • tension in the neck or shoulder

  • a clavicle restriction

  • global postural imbalances(Not just the wrist!)

Sciatica

Often triggered by:

  • pelvis

  • piriformis

  • psoas

  • posterior chain tension from foot to back.

Scoliosis: An Osteopathic Approach for pain That Begins by Understanding Its Origin:

Every scoliosis is unique. That’s why my tests help determine whether the main cause is:

🔸 VisceralOrgan tensions can affect spinal mobility and create compensations.

🔸 Muscular / Posterior ChainFascial or muscular tension in the legs, pelvis, or back can pull on the spine and exaggerate curves.

🔸 Mechanical / ArticularA restriction in one spinal segment can force others to rotate or compensate.

Once the cause is identified, we can improve:

  • mobility

  • posture

  • comfort

  • breathing

  • movement fluidity

Always gently — never forcing.

Osteopathy for pain: My Approach byTreating the Cause, Not Just the Painful Area:

Every session follows a simple logic:

👉 Test👉 Understand👉 Treat the cause👉 Release the compensation👉 Provide durable relief

If you’re looking for a gentle, global osteopathic approach focused on the true origin of your pain, I’ll be happy to help.
