  1. Muscle Atrophy: When you remain seated for extended periods, your muscles aren't adequately engaged. Muscular inactivity reduces blood flow and oxygen supply to the muscles, which can result in loss of muscle mass and muscle atrophy (reduction in size and strength).

  2. Reduced Muscle Stretching: Prolonged sitting can cause muscles and tendons, especially in the hips, thighs, and lower back, to shorten. This reduces flexibility and range of motion, leading to muscle pains and stiffness.

  3. Compression of Intervertebral Discs: Prolonged sitting can exert excessive pressure on the spine, especially on the intervertebral discs between the vertebrae. This can lead to compression of the discs, back problems, and associated pain.

  4. Circulatory Problems: Prolonged sitting can slow down blood circulation, potentially causing issues such as heavy legs, varicose veins, and blood clots. Reduced blood circulation can also affect the transport of nutrients and oxygen to the muscles, further exacerbating muscle atrophy.
